Bria Murphy, who has
modeled for Maxim, the hair care product line Dark and Lovely, and
most recently for rapper Wale’s new music video, Bad, has opened up about the
pressure of the industry. The 23-year-old daughter of actor and comedian Eddie
Murphy, who aspires to become a Victoria's Secret model, revealed how some
models turn to extreme dieting to remain thin. 'I've heard of people eating the
cotton balls with the orange juice … they dip it in the orange juice and then
they eat the cotton balls to help them feel full,' she told Good Morning America. 'The cotton's not doing
anything. It's just dissolving. And it makes you think you're full, but you're
not,' she added. Bria, who actually plays a model in this year's
television film, Rip the Runway, said 'it's a lot of pressure to be
perfect.'
'Lots of girls get
addicted to drugs and anorexia,' she remarked, adding that the pressure can
take a toll. 'I'm a small girl naturally, but I can gain weight. And I'm going
through little hormonal changes and my body's changing and I'm like, "Oh
my God, I'm gaining weight this week, I'm losing weight next week."' As
the eldest of five children to Mr Murphy and his ex-wife Nicole Mitchell, Bria
admitted to being naturally shy during her childhood - something she has had to
overcome. But as she got older, she would give herself encouraging pep talks.'I
was like, "Bria, you can't want to model and not want to be out there in -
be the center of attention. So you've got to get over your little fears of
putting yourself out there,"' she revealed.
