She has largely stayed off
the radar since her long-running TV show Desperate Housewives came to an end
last year. And while some may have wondered why Eva Longoria was keeping a low
profile, they will be pleased to know it's not because she has hung up her
acting shoes. The star has in fact been working on a Master's degree for the
past three years and on Wednesday, she finally graduated.
Eva was grinning from ear
to ear as she received her degree in Chicano Studies at California State
University in Northridge.
The 38-year-old hugged and
shook hands with her professors as they presented her with her diploma. Eva was
a vision in her black cap and gown as she giggled with glee and posed for
photos following the ceremony.
Her parents Enrique
Longoria, Jr. and Ella Eva Mireles, who are of Mexican descent, came to watch
their little girl and couldn't have looked much prouder.
Under her ceremonial
attire, Eva was wearing a smart beige pencil dress and black court shoes. Eva
shared the happy news with her loyal friends and followers on Twitter.
'Big day today!!! Very
excited to graduate for my Master's degree in Chicano Studies!' Eva tweeted,
adding: 'You're never too old or too busy to continue your education!' Eva had
been frantically working on her thesis in order to graduate on time. 'I'm writing
my thesis now. Hopefully, I'll finish in time!' Eva told E! News on May 6. Speaking
about her studies, her representative confirmed Eva had been studying towards
it for three years. The rep said: 'Eva enrolled at Northridge three years ago
and is receiving her Master's degree in Chicano Studies with her thesis on
"Success STEMS From Diversity: The Value of Latinas in STEM [Science,
Technology, Engineering and Mathematics] Careers."'
Eva's many friends were
quick to praise the actress for her perseverence.
The star's former Desperate
Housewives co-star Marica Cross tweeted her congratulations, writing: 'Huge
congratulations on your graduation today!!!! From Canne to Cap and Gown. You
are really something. Xoxo m.'
And Bill Rancic tweeted:
'Congrats Eva!'
Eva also holds a Bachelor
Of Science degree in kinesiology from Texas A&M University. According to
the California State University website, Chicano Studies is described as a
'field that advances a critical understanding of the Chicana/o and Latina/o
experience in the United States.
'Courses reflect a multidisciplinary approach to the understanding of
Chicana/o and Latina/o histories, politics, culture, language and education.'
