The U.S.
Department of State recently
unveiled its program overview and eligibility for the 2015
Diversity Immigrant Visa Lottery (DV-2015).
They
announced Nigerian natives are not eligible for DV-2015.
According
to the document outlining instructions for the 2015 Diversity Immigrant Visa
Program (DV-2015), Nigeria as well as 18 other countries are not eligible
because more than 50,000 natives of these countries immigrated to the United
States in the previous five (5) years.
In line
with its regulations which state that the DV lottery program is targeted at
countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States,
Nigeria is therefore not eligible for 2015.
Other
countries not eligible include Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China
(mainland-born), Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti,
India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, South Korea, United
Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and Vietnam.
