It seems a group of notorious robbers in Lagos want to change the norm of taking their victims by surprise and have chosen to give notice of their heinous acts before striking.
At Ronke Street, Ijeshatedo, Lagos and its environs, residents are in a state of panic over a letter purportedly written to them by armed robbers alerting them of their intention to raid the area.
Sun News reports that copies of the letter were conspicuously pasted on the wall of some of the buildings in the middle of the night.
Part of the letter read: “We will pay you people a visit soon. Be prepared for us.”
The development has led some of the residents to upgrade the security features of their homes, while some of them have even fled the area.
From the account of some of the residents, armed robbers have terrorized them on several occasions. One of them who was yet to recover from the shock of a previous experience told Sun News:
“Late last year, they visited my house heavily-armed. They took every valuable thing in the house and left. They were about eight of them. The next day, the same group of people came to the next compound and robbed the residents. When we called the police, all they did was to arrest the ladder the robbers used to climb and promised to investigate the matter. Till date, nothing has happened.”
When contacted, the Lagos State police spokesperson, DSP Ngozi Braide, called on the residents not to panic saying the police would ensure that the bad boys were flushed out from Ijeshatedo and its environs. She advised residents to make use of the police hotlines which are written conspicuously in every police station and public places.
It is bad enough that there is a huge security lapse. Putting fear in the minds of residents must definitely be an uncomfortable situation. We hope something is done by the relevant authorities to address the situation.
