AfroMod Trends Unveils "Nyornu" Chic & Comfortable Fashion it’s New Collection Lookbook

Sometimes a girl just wants to be comfortable but still look chic.

Ghanaian design label, AfroMods Trends had comfort, chic and gowns on her mind when she created her new collection – Nyornu. The collection which features pieces from gowns and casual shirts to short dresses and shorts, was created for the trendy AfroMod woman. Nyornu, which means woman in the Ewe dialect (a Ghanaian language), is aimed at capturing and celebrating the very essence of womanhood.

The designer, Ami Yomkepe, had a lot to say on the collection’s make-up and talks about each chic, casual and gown sub section of the collection. According to her, she is looking at inspiring the AfroMod woman through this collection. She aims to do this through values of class, elegance and virtue and she hopes this transcends beyond just the clothes to the inherent values of every woman who is touched by ‘Nyornu’.

Carrying out her duties, Ghanaian songstress Adina Thembi Ndamse who was unveiled as the AfroMods Trends ambassador, plays the model in the photo shoot.

Today we are taking a look at the lookbook for Nigerian fashion designer Weiz Dhurm Franklyn‘s Spring/Summer 2014 collection for women. The designer, Wisdom Franklyn, describes the collection as soft and having structured, crafted and humble fabrics. “The collection represents high fashion, femininity and a very sensual physical & pre-dominant power. The silhouette is waist-ed and predominantly very evident. Jackets and dresses have apron necklines while some has the canoe necklines. The Weiz Dhurm Franklyn signature stays evident in the masochist gown with buckles, the exaggerated structural jacket and high detail of craftsmanship evident in all pieces.” I love a lot of pieces in the collection, although I don’t think I would rock this for Summer.

Women reflect with amazing honesty on their harrowing decision to have an abortion - and the cold reactions of the fathers

Abortion remains one of the most controversial topics in the United States but a new photo essay looks beyond the politics and at the people who know the effects on a personal level.

Photographer Allison Joyce took portraits of five women who opened up about their decisions to terminate their pregnancies, at different times in their lives and with varying support from the men in their lives. The women range in age and live in New York, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts- three states that are not generally considered the most conservative in the country. Lisa, a 45-year-old from Massachusetts, says she became pregnant and had two abortions when she was in her thirties. 'His immediate response was "Well you can't have it!"' she said. 'It was such a fast and such a visceral response that he had. I asked him why and he said "Well you just have to get an abortion- you can't have this baby and there's no way around it,"' Lisa said.

Brazilian Businessman Buries His £310,000 Bentley So He Can Use It In The Afterlife

62years old wealthy entrepreneur 'Count Scarpa' will be burying his greatest treasure - his new £310,000 Bentley convertible today so as to avoid any chance of not balling in his afterlife. In a bizarre announcement on his Facebook page Scarpa declared that he plans to do as the Pharaohs of Egypt did and take his riches with him when he dies by burying them. So today, he will entomb his brand new Bentley Continental worth over £310,000 to make sure he has a comfortable journey into the ‘other side’. 
The funeral ceremony, he promises, will be at 11am in Sao Paulo.The self-made businessman, who has a degree in economics and is a black belt instructor and owner of the Institute Maruyama Aikido, a Japanese martial arts academy, explains that his decision to start storing up his treasures for the life beyond came after watching a programme on Ancient Egypt on Sunday. 'I was watching a documentary about the pharaohs of Egypt, very interesting. They buried their entire fortune to have a comfortable life "the other side"!'
So, he wants to copy them. Scarpa has been married twice - his first wife died, then he married a second wife whom he divorced.
Scarpa has no children.

Sandra’s Ode: “14 Reasons Why I Love My Madre”

More often than not, we hear stories of horrible in-laws and monstrous mothers in-law. So it was indeed a breath of fresh air to read from someone who thinks of nothing but the best of her fiance’s mother.Sandra  is a final year student of Human Resource Management in the US. Although her wedding is later on this year, she can’t wait to tell the world about the awesomeness of the mother who gave birth to her Boo. Sandra told us that a lot of people have said to her that she’s being pre-emptive in singing praises of her mother in-law. Her response to naysayers? “That is a lie. My MIL is God fearing and will never change”.

Who would have thought that the day I gained my beau, I also gained myself an awesome new mom. Lucky right? I know. Nigerian Design Label iamISIGO presents its Edgy & Dark Collection Lookbook for Autumn/Winter 2013/14 “11 Voltaire”

It has been a long time coming! After taking a 2 year break, Paris based design label iamISIGO debuts its Autumn/Winter 2013/14 collection lookbook – 11 Voltaire.

The collection, was inspired by the designers fascination with universal laws in the moral world that are yet to be uncovered in the physical world. According to the designer, Bubu Ogisi, the collection was named after the arrondissement (administrative district) in Paris where Bubu  lived as well as the French Philosopher, Voltaire, who believed & promoted religious tolerance, freedom of expression and the separation of church and state.

The edgy & dark collection comprises mainly of hand-painted pieces with light fabrics ranging from satin to woven crepes, semi-sheer fabrics of organza and chiffon and metallic cotton. Its pieces have an easy-breezy aura that celebrates the modern woman in a minimal yet captivating way.

Beyonce Shot Magazine Cover in Return for Burying ‘Freaky’ Bodyguard Story

The Beyonce and Jay Z dead bodyguard story keeps getting weird than it already is. 

Gawker.com quotes a source who says the major publication was Shape magazine (which is owned by the conglomerate that publishes The National Enquirer).

According to the NY Daily News, the major publication provided Beyonce and Jay Z with photographic and video evidence of Oosterbroek using the passports of Jay Z, Beyonce and their daughter Blue Ivy in some sort of freaky sex act.

Beyonce immediately offered the mag a cover shoot in return for the magazine burying the story. They obviously thought this news would never see the light of day. Which begs the question: what other stories has Beyonce and Jay Z made deals with media outlets to bury?

From Gawker.com:The Daily News write-up is scant on details with regard to the act itself, except to note that a source described Oosterbroek’s performance entailed “some pretty freaky things.”

As many astute commenters have pointed out, entertainment blog Crazy Days and Nights published a version of this story as a blind item earlier this year, and later identified American Media, Inc. (publisher of Shape Magazine…and the National Enquirer) as the company that buried the bodyguard story. Beyoncé appeared on the April cover of Shape.

Devastated Michael Jordan asks Magic Johnson for advice on dealing with lesbian daughter

 

Michael Jordan is having a hard time dealing with the fact that his only daughter, Jasmine Jordan, might be a lesbian. According to The National Enquirer, Jordan asked Earvin “Magic” Johnson for advice after Jasmine revealed what side of the closet door she stood on in a series of posts on Instagram.com. Magic reportedly advised Jordan to “just love her and to let her know that she owes it to herself to be 100 percent genuine and to live her life to the fullest.”

Both sports legends have children who are homosexual. Magic’s cross dressing son, EJ Johnson, came screaming out of the closet earlier this year. Jordan is reportedly impressed with Magic’s handling of the personal crisis that hit his family when EJ hit the streets wearing spandex and boa feathers.

The celebrity bodyguard who was tasered to death by Miami police was fired by Beyonce and Jay Z after they caught him soliciting a prostitute, the NY Daily News reports.

Norman “Dutch Giant” Oosterbroek who protected A-list stars such as Lady Gaga was tasered to death by Miami-Dade County police on Sept. 2 after he stripped naked and broke into a neighbor’s home. Police believe Oosterbrook was high on bath salts at the time of his death.

According to the NY Daily News, a “major print publication” approached Beyonce and Jay Z last year with evidence of their bodyguard’s freaky sexcapades, but the power couple allegedly made a deal the publication to bury the story.

As expected, Actor Liam Hemsworth packed his things and moved out of singer Miley Cyrus’ Hollywood mansion. While some bloggers say the couple’s demise was due to Miley’s new image as a raunchy, twerking hoodrat, the former Disney child star blames her lost childhood for her troubles.

“I was an adult when I was supposed to be a kid. So now I’m an adult and I’m acting like a kid,” bemoaned Cyrus in a cover interview for Harper’s Bazaar magazine.

There were advance warnings that Cyrus’s marriage was on the rocks. When asked if she was considering marriage to Hemsworth, she snapped, “I definitely don’t have time to deal with a wedding right now. But I will at some point.”

Wizkid & P-Square gets Nominated for the 2013 MTV Europe Music Awards

Tuesday 17th September 2013, urban music channel MTV announced the nominees for the 2013 edition of the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA). And, two top Nigerian artists P-square and Wizkid were nominated in the Best African Act category. Other artistes who also got nods in the same category include Ghana's Fuse ODG and South Africa's Mafikizolo and Locnville (LCNVL).

The winner of the category will represent Africa at the global music celebration.

Voting begins today at www.mtvema.com. The Best African Act winner will move on to the next phase of voting which is the Worldwide Act category.

The Awards show will be broadcasted live on Sunday 10th November 2013.

Aaron Alexis, 34, named as the heavily armed gunman who opened fire at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington D.C.

The Washington Navy Yard gunman who killed 12 today has previously claimed to be suffering from PTSD after helping rescue efforts in New York following the 9/11 terror attacks. Gunman Aaron Alexis was shot dead by responding officers after he opened fire inside a Navy facility around 8:00 a.m. on Monday morning.  It emerged today that he used three guns during the massacre, one of them an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle - the same weapon used in the Sandy Hook and Aurora mass shootings. Since he was identified as the shooter, reports have revealed that it was not the first time he was involved in a shooting.  In 2004, Alexis was arrested in Seattle for shooting the tires of a construction worker's car during what he later called an anger-fueled 'blackout.' 'He said that he didn’t remember pulling the trigger of his firearm until about one hour later,' according to the Seattle police report. Later he said that he felt the intended victim 'disrespected' him. The report states that his father said his anger issues stemmed back to his time in New York where he helped the rescue efforts following the September 11 terrorist attacks.The shooter's father told police 'that his son had experienced anger management problems that the family believed associated [sic] with PTSD.' He was arrested in relation to that incident but never charged, an outcome repeated in Fort Worth, Texas where Alexis was living in 2010.

TWELVE die and up to 15 are wounded in Washington Navy Yard rampage

Terror visited Washington D.C. this morning as at least one heavily armed gunman calmly opened fire inside a building at the Washington Navy Yard killing at least 11 people and injuring at least 12. Named as 34-year-old civilian contractor Aaron Alexis, the Fort Worth resident entered the cafeteria in the Washington military base brandishing an AR-15 rifle, shotgun and handgun and began shooting. After SWAT teams swarmed the headquarters of the Naval Sea Systems Command the FBI said that Alexis died after launching his rampage, during which witnesses said he appeared to fire at selected targets and not randomly. Washington D.C.'s FBI field office reportedly said that they have 'all assets out' as they search for one other possible shooter they described as a black man in his 40s or his 50s. Washington D.C. police chief Cathy Lanier said the other potential gunman were wearing a military-style uniform and has greying sideburns. 'It appears that we have at least 12 fatalities … it doesn’t get much more serious than that, obviously,' said Washington D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray. 'We have no known motive at this stage. We will continue the investigation to try and figure out what that motive is.' Previously, Washington D.C. police chief Cathy Lanier said that law enforcement were searching for two individuals, one white and one black.

‘12 Years a Slave’ Wins 2013 People’s Choice Award

The awards and accolades continue to pile up for ’12 Years a Slave’, which won the People’s Choice Audience award from the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, Deadline.com reports. '12 Years a Slave’ debuted at Telluride Film Festival, and is already generating talk of Oscar nominations, despite earning the rep of being “too difficult” to sit through.

The Fox Searchlight Film is based on the true story of a free black man from upstate NY, Solomon Northup, who is abducted and sold into slavery. In his 12th year of slavery, Northrup (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor) has long been forgotten by the wife and children he left behind.

The incident occurred as Beyonce, wearing a blue sequined catsuit, was performing live in Sao Paula, Brazil on Sunday night. As she leaned forward to sing directly to ticket holders near the stage, one over-excited, shirtless male fan embraced her in a bear hug and pulled her off the elevated platform she was standing on. Before the fan could have his way with her, two uniformed security guards immediately leapt onstage and rescued the singer in mid yodel. After the Little drama, the singer continued with her performance as if nothing had happened.

David Hayward a British Journalist Narrates His Experience In Nigeria After short Visit

Earlier this year, I was approached to do some media consultancy in Nigeria. I’d just left the BBC after 18 years, to set up my own business, so this seemed a great opportunity.  I spoke to a number of friends and former colleagues. I’d heard many stories about Nigeria, seen the reports on Boko Haram and had my own impressions of sub Saharan Africa.

The advice fell into two camps:
a) Don’t go, you’ll get kidnapped or catch malaria. Either way, you’re going to die
b) Nigeria is a nightmare. When you arrive, you’ll be swamped by hustlers trying to rip you off, steal your luggage and all your money. If they don’t get you, the corrupt police officers and officials will.
I was mainly to be based in Asaba, the capital of the Delta State, one of, if not the biggest, oil producing states is Nigeria. In an attempt to be a bit more thorough with my research than asking a few old mates, I contacted the office of BBC Media Action in Abuja.

Arik air Plane Makes Emergency Landing As Woman Gives Birth On Board Flight To London

An Arik Air flight with over 100 passengers en route to London Sunday was forced to make an emergency landing in Palmas, Spain, as a woman went into labour and gave birth while the aircraft was airborne. The pilot was said to have requested the emergency landing on the advice of two doctors who were on board the aircraft and had helped the mother deliver the baby.  When the passenger went into labour, the cabin crew asked that doctors on board the flight to identify themselves. Following the announcement, two of the passengers came forward, saying they were doctors and assisted in the delivery of the baby.

Normally, a source disclosed that in the few instances where women have given birth on board, the aircraft would continue its flight to its final destination. However, the Arik flight was forced to make an emergency landing following the advice of the doctors that the woman was bleeding excessively - she was said to have experienced excessive haemorrhaging, necessitating the emergency landing.

U.S. Department of State announces Nigeria is Not Eligible for the 2015 Visa Lottery

The U.S. Department of State recently unveiled its program overview and eligibility for the 2015 Diversity Immigrant Visa Lottery (DV-2015).

They announced Nigerian natives are not eligible for DV-2015.

According to the document outlining instructions for the 2015 Diversity Immigrant Visa Program (DV-2015), Nigeria as well as 18 other countries are not eligible because more than 50,000 natives of these countries immigrated to the United States in the previous five (5) years.

In line with its regulations which state that the DV lottery program is targeted at countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States, Nigeria is therefore not eligible for 2015.

Other countries not eligible include Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (mainland-born), Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and Vietnam.

Dooney's Kitchen: Coconut rice – a taste of Thailand

Coconut rice is undeniably Oriental. If you have always thought it was a Nigerian dish, let me help you correct that assumption now. It is as Thai as Thai comes. Some people make it like Jollof rice, which I don’t necessarily agree with, because the coconut is competing with the flavour of tomatoes and pepper where it eventually loses out, but hey cooking is personal. Some also make it like fried rice which I also skirt around a little but not necessarily fried rice. Yes I add vegetables to mine, but I make sure it is still Thai related. One of the positives of Thai food is the fresh clean flavours. If you truly enjoy Thai cooking, you don’t mess with that at all. Why did I decide to make Coconut rice? I was hosting my friends from Abuja, and these girls are what you call my personal persons, so I wanted to do something special. This is a great option for entertaining if you want to serve something different. Thai coconut rice is made plainly and served just like that. I wanted to introduce some colour into it, and what better way to do that, than to use red chilli and spring onions. I also wanted to stay with Thai ingredients, so I cooked it with lemon grass and galangal (ginger), boy oh boy the taste combination was awesome.

The 34-year-old singer and the 27-year-old model tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at a lavish estate in Lake Como on Saturday. Chrissy wore a strapless Vera Wang gown with an open back, full skirt and embroidery. The Sports Illustrated beauty gave no indication she was about to say 'I do' when she attended shows at New York Fashion Week on Thursday, but she revealed she had purchased three Vera Wang wedding gowns for her special day.

She told the Huffington Post: 'Every time I went in [to Vera Wang] for a fitting, I couldn't stop getting one. It's just too pretty.'

A source previously revealed that they chose the scenic location for their wedding because 'that's where they fell in love.' The insider said that the couple's guests would be staying in a hotel in the region for about four or five days for the celebration.

Chrissy, who got engaged to John in 2011 after four years of dating, also recently said she was feeling relaxed about their nuptials as she had let her wedding planner take complete control of the event. She said: 'I'm excited. I can't wait for the ceremony. [John] and I have been working and travelling so much that we just let our wedding planner do everything. We're not neurotic about it. I just want to finally see all of my friends in one area.'

Rapist Discovers His Victim Had HIV

A jailed rapist will discover this week whether he contracted HIV from his victim. Richard Thomas, 27, collapsed when police informed him about his victim's medical status and is still waiting to hear if he has contracted the virus.

Thomas knew the woman and was aware that she has another illness but had not known about the HIV. He was shocked when he was told and asked to be taken to hospital, Liverpool Crown Court heard. He had let himself into her home in Leigh, Greater Manchester, uninvited in the middle of the night and she awoke to find him raping her from behind. "She froze and no words were exchanged. He pulled up his shorts and left," said Harry Pepper, prosecuting. "He was arrested and interviewed and said he had been drinking heavily, taken cocaine and ecstasy and could not recall the incident," he added.
His barrister, Virginia Hayton, said that he still cannot recall the attack but when told about it he said that the woman "would not lie, she tells the truth. If she says I have done it, I have done it.
